Dusk had arrived, and a streak of sunlight filtered through the sparse birch leaves, casting patches of light across the streets of Pine Forest Town.
Adventurers in various attire shuttled back and forth along the dirt streets, rushing against time to pick up or submit quests from the Adventurer Guild.
Smiles of a bountiful harvest rippled across their faces as they eagerly headed to the nearby tavern to pass the wonderful time and relieve their fatigue from the day.
Meanwhile, at the end of the street near the eastern gate close to the Misty Forest, a group of uninvited guests arrived in a dilapidated farmer's cottage that had been destroyed by monsters.
Inside this drafty, broken wooden hut, in a dark corner, a middle-aged man draped in black robes said in a low voice,
"How is the investigation of the task I assigned you going?"
Another man in the same attire replied,
"Teacher, I have confirmed that this is a near-modern civilization, and its level of development is far inferior to Blue Star, having just come into contact with industrial technology."
"The civilization will here is extremely weak. The Otherworld's invasion had just begun when it was already liberated by the Sacred Lake."
"There were already native monsters here, and the Otherworld invasion hasn't had time to cause any malicious impacts yet."
"We came out from a monster basin called the Great Rift Valley, and Pine Forest Town is the only entrance and exit for those Adventurers heading to the Great Rift Valley."
Having been teleported to the center of the Great Rift Valley two months ago, they had endured hardships and dangers, resisted various monster attacks, and narrowly escaped death all the way. Finally, after two consecutive months of arduous trekking, they arrived at Pine Forest Town.
The middle-aged man nodded. "So, this is a modern civilization that naturally developed fantasy powers, completing its civilization's internal circulation through mutual hunting between humans and monsters internally."
"How is it? Have you found any ways to make money?"
Due to the punishment from the Lord of Spirits, the Necromancer God's Divine Power had been constantly flowing away. The two of them had to work with all their might to earn funds to exchange for something locally called energy stones to replenish the Divine Power for the Necromancer God, preventing damage to the Origin.
In Yage's view,
with the tier-5 Adventurer strength level preserved for them by the Lord of Spirits, seeking a position as a silver-rank Adventurer in the local Adventurer Guild was truly more than enough.
However, Wright shook his head and replied,
"Teacher, I just went to the Adventurer Guild in the town center to ask around. Unless we can prove our identities, we can only start as the lowest-level black-iron rank Adventurers, take on the lowest-level commissions, and work for a full year before we can take the assessment to obtain promotion qualifications."
"What kind of black-iron rank commissions?"
Wright recalled:
"Looking for missing house cats, gathering herbs on the outskirts of the forest, cleaning public latrines, transporting goods, laying roofs, and also..."
Yage waved his hand. "Enough! Say no more! Can't we just skip this step directly?"
Wright had a strange expression. "I asked too. The guild member said that this is all the will of the Supreme God, saying that there is going to be control during this period to prevent outlaws from outside worlds from wandering around committing crimes."
"Who is the Supreme God?"
Yage searched through his memories and couldn't find any deity who called themselves the Supreme God.
Now that the Sacred Lake had taken over the entire Otherworld, who would have the guts to dare call themselves the Supreme God?
Wright had a strange expression and muttered, "It's the Sacred Lake."
After the Sacred Lake declared itself the sole manager of the Otherworld, it dispatched envoys to all void realm civilizations.
Under the combined influence of the local civilization will and the power displayed by the envoys,
the fantasy civilization they were in was immediately captivated by the Sacred Lake, and directly collectively referred to the faction of the Sacred Lake as the Supreme God.
The census and control issued by this Supreme God to the entire void realm were originally intended to temporarily delay malignant exchanges and collisions between various void realms, achieving Fusion through relatively gentle means.
Yet, by a twist of fate, it blocked the path for Yage and Wright to enter the Adventurer Guild for work.
Yage fell silent.
Their identities should not be exposed right now. The Necromancer God and both of them were in a state of exile. If the Necromancer God stirred up the anger of the Lord of Spirits again, they wouldn't be able to predict what kind of consequences there would be.
"Have you found any other way to replenish the Divine Power for Lord Necromancer God?"
Wright replied, "I also inquired about many jobs, such as being an assistant at a bakery or work like an apprentice blacksmith, but unfortunately, they don't make much money."
Yage was somewhat unwilling and slightly clenched his fists.
The only fast way to make money was to register and become an Adventurer member.
"Could it be that we can only steal?"
Before the two Believers finished speaking, a girl's voice as crisp as a silver bell came from beside them:
"Hmph, you two idiots! Not only did you make this Lord live in such a lousy place, but you also have no ambition at all!"
"You're so useless!"
A fair-skinned girl, standing no more than 1.2 meters tall, pouted her lips.
She sat on the edge of the only broken bed, her tender lotus-root-like little feet dangling over the edge of the crude bedding, and within her grayish-black pupils, death seemed to reside.
The two black-robed Believers respectfully said, "Lord Necromancer God, please mind your health and avoid speaking too much to prevent losing too much Divine Power."
After being messed with by Qi Ye, the current Necromancer God had turned into a young girl with no strength to truss a chicken,
her meager figure looking as if a gust of wind could blow her over. Even moving or speaking required expending Divine Power, making her look utterly like a good-for-nothing.
Even so, the necromancer girl still held her head high. "This deity will speak however she wants!"
"Look at you both! Without this deity's care, you've actually fallen to the state of working for Mortals! It's truly laughable and pathetic."
"Are you really going to muddle through life like this and let those fellows from the Sacred Lake mock you?"
"If word gets out, it's truly losing this deity's face!"
Wright fell into thought.
While Yage said without hesitation,
"As long as Lord Necromancer God can survive, even if you make me work like an ox or a horse, I am willing!"
The necromancer girl was furious, lifting her little foot to kick Yage, but she couldn't kick him away.
The latter didn't budge an inch, as his heart of loyalty was already branded into his soul.
Helpless, she let out another hmph:
"Hmph, this sovereign hates that about you!"
"Considering that you carried this sovereign all the way to Pine Forest Town, I'll tell you: my death rules have not been completely sealed yet, and I can still seize deathly auras through rituals to replenish Divine Power!"
As she spoke, she cursed under her breath:
"Damn that Sparrow, actually making this sovereign move around in such a fragile form! I will make that Sparrow regret exiling me to this place!"
"Yage, Wright!"
She stood up, raising her voice just a little bit, when suddenly her head spun and her Divine Power was so depleted that she was about to tumble under the bed.
Yage and Wright hurriedly stepped forward to catch her and help her up.
"Ahem, anyway, let that stinking Sparrow see that no matter how harsh the environment is, we will definitely accomplish a great undertaking in the future!"
"Did you hear that!"
Yage's eyes lit up, as if he saw a bright future under the leadership of the necromancer girl.
"Tomorrow, we will take action. I name it the Great Revival of Death!"
The necromancer girl said smugly and confidently.
Moved, Yage murmured, "Lord Necromancer God——!"
He seemed to see the most high-spirited appearance of the Necromancer God.
The necromancer girl and her two Believers discussed for a day and a night in this dilapidated hut, finally finalizing the first step of their grand plan.
Thus, early the next morning, at the eastern street intersection of Pine Forest Town, a small mobile funeral stall was set up.
