The hospital corridor reeked of disinfectant, and the harsh fluorescent lights made one dizzy.
Yu Wantang pushed open the ward door, carrying a fruit basket.
Lin Xia leaned against the hospital bed, the oversized patient gown hanging loosely on her frame and exposing her slender wrists.
She had a classic oval face, skin so fair it was almost translucent, and a pair of sparkling bright eyes that immediately softened people's hearts.
A quintessential delicate white lotus—it was truly rotten luck for her to run into an unhinged, domineering CEO.
"Lin Xia, the company approved two weeks of paid leave for you. Just focus on resting and don't worry about work."
Yu Wantang placed the fruit basket on the nightstand and poured her a cup of warm water.
Lin Xia sniffled, her eyes reddening again. "Sister Yu, I've caused you so much trouble..."
"It's no trouble at all. Just get plenty of rest."
The two chatted for a while before Yu Wantang took her leave.
She had only taken two steps outside when a clamor of hurried footsteps came from the far end of the corridor.
A tall man in a black trench coat strode at the front, flanked by four bodyguards in black suits.
Two bodyguards had a young woman pinned by her arms. She struggled frantically, throwing her head back, her disheveled hair veiling half of her face.
"Leng Siye, let me go!!"
Leng Siye looked down at the struggling Wen Nuan, his tone calm. "Wen Nuan, be good. Listen to me."
"My sister needs a kidney, and yours happens to be a match. Being able to save her is your blessing. Rest assured, no matter what happens to you, I will always love you."
A few family members of other patients were passing through the corridor and stopped in their tracks at the commotion. But the moment they saw the menacing bodyguards in black, they quietly turned around, scurried back into their rooms, and shut their doors tightly behind them.
Yu Wantang stayed where she was, watching the entire scene unfold.
"System, what kind of specimen is this one?"
"Leng Siye, a CEO straight out of a female-oriented angst novel. His famous quote is: 'I may dig out your heart and carve out your liver, but I love you.' The woman being dragged away is his childhood friend, Wen Nuan. In the original plot, Wen Nuan had loved him since they were young. Taking advantage of her feelings, he forced her into the surgery, and she died of a postoperative infection. It wasn't until Wen Nuan died that Leng Siye regretted it, spending the rest of his life wallowing in remorse."
Yu Wantang had seen too many short drama plots like this. In the past, if she scrolled past one she disliked, she'd simply swipe away. But seeing this happen right in front of her eyes churned her stomach.
You call this fucking love? This is a criminal offense.
Watching too many of these brainless short dramas really would rot the minds of the youth.
Seeing this scene unfold in reality gave her genuine visceral disgust, making her stomach heave.
You call this fucking love?
This is a criminal offense!
She turned and slipped back into Lin Xia's ward, locking the door behind her. Pulling out her phone, she first dialed 110, then the Health Commission's hotline, quickly rattling off the location, situation, and number of suspects.
Hanging up the call, she turned to look at Lin Xia.
"No matter what happens outside, don't come out. Keep the door locked."
Frightened by her expression, Lin Xia nodded vigorously.
Yu Wantang pushed the door open and stepped outside, treading lightly as she crept along the wall toward the end of the corridor.
The System asked, "Host, you already called the police. What are you heading over there for?"
"What if the police take too long? Once they start the surgery, it'll be too late. Besides, I still have the martial prowess accumulated from previous worlds. A few bodyguards are nothing in my eyes."
Although she had no immortal arts or magic, taking down a few mortal bodyguards was more than easy.
The ward door at the end of the hall was slightly ajar. She peered inside through the gap.
Wen Nuan lay motionless on the hospital bed, though it was unclear whether she had fainted or had been anesthetized.
Several people in white coats were preparing for the procedure, while Leng Siye stood by the bed with his hands in his pockets, his face expressionless.
Just as she was about to push the door open, someone tapped her shoulder.
Two black-suited bodyguards had circled behind her without her noticing, their large hands already reaching for her shoulders.
Yu Wantang didn't dodge.
Using the momentum of her turn, she whipped her right arm up violently, the edge of her palm slicing through the air to strike the back of the left bodyguard's neck. Without even a groan, his eyes rolled back, and he slumped directly to the ground.
The one on the right barely opened his mouth before Yu Wantang pivoted, closing the distance and driving her knee viciously into his stomach.
As he doubled over in agony, she hooked the back of his head, yanking it down, and brought her knee up once more to smash into the bridge of his nose. Blood seeped through his fingers as he wobbled twice and collapsed as well.
All of it took less than three seconds.
Both bodyguards lay on the floor, clutching their faces and groaning in pain.
Hearing the commotion, the people inside halted their work.
Leng Siye slowly turned his head, sweeping an arrogant glance over her from head to toe, his eyes dripping with disdain.
Unhurriedly, he drew a black bank card from his pocket and flicked his wrist.
The card arced through the air, slapped sharply against Yu Wantang's cheek, bounced off, and landed on the floor.
"Take it and mind your own business."
Yu Wantang glanced down at the card on the floor, then looked back up at him, her gaze turning cold.
What she despised most were people who thought having a bit of money entitled them to do whatever they pleased.
"I'm definitely meddling in this today. What are you gonna do, bite me?"
Leng Siye narrowed his eyes, shedding some of his casual arrogance as the corners of his mouth pulled down. "No woman has ever dared speak to me like that."
He turned to instruct the other two bodyguards. "Go deal with her."
In just a couple of moves, Yu Wantang flattened them as well.
"Oh? A feisty little kitten, are we?"
He slowly rolled up his shirt sleeves, revealing muscular forearms, and stepped toward her one stride at a time.
Yu Wantang rolled her eyes internally.
Here we go again. Would these CEOs drop dead if they didn't act cool?
Just as she was about to strike, her ears twitched slightly.
Hurried footsteps approached from the end of the corridor, and the faint wail of police sirens drifted up from downstairs.
Her eyes darted, and she instantly clutched her stomach, crying out in pain as she crumpled, curling up onto the floor.
Leng Siye halted mid-stride, looking down at the woman's sudden collapse with a furrowed brow.
"Weren't you acting so tough just a second ago? Scared now?"
"Even if you beg for mercy, it's useless!"
Sneering, he bent down, reached out with his right hand, and pinched her chin between two fingers, tilting her face up.
"Don't move!"
The ward door was kicked open from the outside, and several fully armed police officers flooded in.
"Nobody move! Hands behind your heads!"
Terrified, the doctors in white coats dropped into squats immediately, too scared to even breathe loudly.
Yu Wantang scrambled up from the floor and pointed at the black card on the ground. "Officer, please look into this card. He just tried to bribe me with it, and I suspect he's involved in online money laundering."
The lead officer picked up the card, inspected it, and then glared at Leng Siye.
"Kidnapping a citizen in broad daylight, illegal organ harvesting, and money laundering?"
Leng Siye finally realized what was happening, the cold composure on his face cracking. His lips parted, but before he could utter a word, two officers clamped down on his shoulders from both sides.
"You people—"
